A tablet
There are many people specualting about the last changes of the IT market. With the peak of the Apple iPad sales there is some kind of “post-PC era” hysteria. Few are those who succeed in convincing people that this is not a process of destroying the PC. It’s just an evolution of the concept.
There are many paralels that I could think of, but the first analogue in my mind is related to the main topic of our blog – the international call services. The innovative VoIP technology is just another way to satisfy the needs for cheap calls. There is no sign of decrease in the sales of calling cards. Same applies to the PC replacement.
The basics of the PC are clear – personal computer. This term has the same meaning for Macs and all other non-Windows PCs. So to speak, there is no PC replacement. Even if the tablets make Windows and Mac OS X obsolete, this will not be the burial of the PC, since the tablet has all the PC functions. It would be only the old concept gone forever. It’s really weird how nobody expressed any such sentiments when the laptop-notebook-netbook-ultrabook evolution ocurred.
The natural consequences of the tablet spreading are clear – it will make a drop of the old PC sales. The tablets have all the functions for this – web surfing, email, social networking and almost everything else plus new features. And, of course, the size and the shape. Last, but not least, keep in mind that Apple and Microsoft are unifying their desktop operating systems to meet the new trends and demands.
