According to some reports, Apple has a good reason to manufacture i’s iPad in China. Apart from the cheap labour, there are also rare earth elements, which can be found only in China. New York Times claimed that China controls nearly 97 percent of the world’s rare earth material deposits. It was the country’s decision to cut the export quotas that made the price of these materaials to rapidly increase.
The exact type of rare earth materials is not a matter of public, but the speculations are about Lanthanum for the iPad’s battery and a number of other materials for the colours in the display. Neodymium alloy is a possible material for the magnets and the cerium oxide is a suitable glass polisher. The Chinese monopoly made some American and Australian companies plan a near future mining.
