Apple OS X computers are threatened by a new malware, detected by Microsoft. The Mac version of the Office pack is too old and may be infected. The malware is still not of great proprtions, but the systems of those who haven’t upgraded to the latest patches are vulnerable, according to Microsoft’s Malware Protection Center.
Microsoft released a security update in June 2009 to fight the hackers who seek to gain remote control over a machine. This security update doesn’t work with OS X Lion – only Snow Leopard and older versions are safe. The main reason for this is the apparent “backdoor” function, written specifically for OS X.
Microsoft gave hints to those who use Microsoft Office 2004 or 2008 for Mac or the Open XML File Format Converter for Mac – they have to make sure the products have applied the patch.
