One of the biggest mobile telecommunication companies in Spain – Telefonica is going to release a new mobile VoIP app that allows free VoIP calls and sending text messages for free. The app is called TU Me and it is already regarded as a big challenger of Skype and Whatsapp. Both Skype and Whatsapp are very popular among smartphone users because they can be used for making free and cheap calls or sending free text messages respectively. However, Telefonica’s app aim is to combine both set of services in one product. The new mobile VoIP app is, for now, available only for iPhone, but if it gathers popularity it won’t that much surprising if Telefonica develops versions for the other mobile operating systems like Android, Symbian and Windows Phone. TU Me is absolutely free and available for download from iTunes for anyone not just subscribers of Telefonica.

Besides providing users with the chance to make free calls or send free text messages TU Me offers to the consumer some other options as well. The free calls with TU Me are available only with other users that have installed the same app on their mobile phones, however in comparison to Skype the user does not need to add friends to a contact list because TU Me will show him which of the contacts on his phone have already installed the app on their devices, thus making a lot easier for him to place a free call. Also inviting new users to install this app on their smartphones is always an option. With TU Me users can not only make free calls or send free text messages, but they can also send photos, share their location and even record audio and video messages absolutely for free.

Telefonica is the latest telecommunication company to release their own mobile VoIP app for smartphones after this was already done by such big companies like AT&T and T-Mobile.
