The popular mobile VoIP application continues to set new benchmarks after announcing that there were 40 million Skype concurrent users online. The milestone was set very recently and it broke the previous record that Skype set just few days ago of 35 million concurrent users. This is another good news for the company after it was acquired by Microsoft just few months ago for $8.5 billion.
Skype commemorated the occasion in a post of the official Skype blog which makes some very interesting parallel with the number of people using Skype at the same time and the population on the planet Earth few millennia ago. It turns out that 4000 thousand years ago the entire population on the whole planet was 40 million people.
Of course, Skype didn’t miss the opportunity to praise itself even further by pointing out to the biggest advantages that the telecommunication app offers like: making video and audio calls for free, sending SMS or instant messages, share files and so on. All of those things are now done momentarily with the use of Skype.
