- Tehran Internet Policy
The problems that Yahoo has, now are quite important, and they will affect the whole Internet industry, but there are much more important things in the world, considering the freedom of speech.
When Netherlands announced their anti-censorship law, it was a great news for everybody. On the contrary, Iran is increasing the control over the web. Tehran prohibits the banks, the insurance companies and the Telecom companies to communicate via e-mail clients which are registered outside Iran. Ergo, they cannot use Gmail, Yahoo and Hotmail. In order to communicate, they will need to make new registrations in the local sites – post.ir, iran.ir and chmail.ir, etc. This is just another step in the efforts of Iran to become internet independent and to have its own Internet hosted entirely inside the borders.
