call SpainThe Nomura Equity Research company conducted a research about smartphones components which helped determine which is the most expensive part of a smartphone. According to the results that the research showed, contrary to the popular believe the display of the smartphone is not at all the most expensive part used in such devices. It turned out that the flash memory that most smartphones are equipped with is the most expensive thing about them. The experts from Nomura concluded that the manufacturing price for the flash memory varies between $ 20-22, while the manufacturing price for a smartphone display is somewhere between $ 15-20. 

According to the research about the most expensive part in a smartphone, an average model of these kinds of mobile devices is built with the use of 25 different parts. After the display and the flash memory the third most expensive thing in a smartphone is its application processor. The processor of a smartphone comes around $15-17. The rest of the components used for manufacturing smartphones have different prices varying between $1 and $15. One of the cheapest parts of a smartphone is the GPS which costs only $1-2, the price of the camera lens is also in the same price range.

Besides listing the manufacturing prices of the different parts and components found in a smartphone, Nomura research also lists which are the biggest manufacturers and suppliers of the different types of parts. The research also gives information in per cents where in the world are the biggest shipments of smartphones and under which operating systems are running the different types of smartphones.
