Microsoft will no longer support the app downloader for users of Windows Mobile 6.X, in order to make way for the new Windows Phone 7 faster. The decision has been officially declared yesterday. 9th of May is the deadline for those who need to buy or download apps.
Microsoft released the Windows Mobile 6.x Marketplace (the Windows Phone 7 web store is called Windows Phone marketplace ) in 2009 as an ehancement of the Apple’s App Store, which initially had some 35,000 applications (and now has roughly around 550,000 apps). The need for a new concept made Microsoft separate the two platforms and form a distinct Windows Phone 7 app store.
Users can still purchase what they need from third party app marketplaces or directly from developers’ pages, only the Microsoft store will be cut off.
